St Catherine’s Hospice Open Day

I mentioned earlier in the blog that I had applied for a volunteer role at a local hospice. Saturday was the open day hosted on site where people were to turn up to discuss the role, sort of an informal interview. I met up with one of their staff and we sat down to discuss the responsibilities of the role and then there were a few questions about my understanding.

I’ve always thought it would be a great compliment to my current counselling studies and as my dad spent his final days there I’ve always wanted to return the kindness they showed him and us.

Ironically my current IT skills are going to work brilliantly as there is an element of tech support involved as there are computers and tablets available to service users to provide information.

I’ve now been booked on to the training which is scheduled for October where I will undergo some basic inductions to the Hospice and their policies and procedures. The following session will be more specialised for the advisory role and covering confidentiality and information governance along with limitations of the role in terms of advisory capacity etc.

I’m really looking forward to this and can’t wait to get started. More to follow!
